Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was not just a film, it was an obsession for many. The 90’s kids will understand what we are saying. If there is one thing we’ll be forever indebted to KKHH, it is style. From donning the mini skirt to gelling one’s hair and celebrating friendship with Ferrero Rochers, it showed us how things were done. Here’s a look at five trends listed by Bollywoodlife.com on how KKHH made mark for every teen of that generation.
Friendship Bands
Satin ribbons were never so much until this film. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai started the trend of friendship bands and suddenly Friendship Day was an occasion. Every girl would hope that the guy she liked in school would tie a band on her wrist and vice versa. These bands were flaunted for a week or so before they got tucked away with our collectibles.
Pastel saree and lace blouse
The film released in 1998 but the craze of pastel sarees was such that everyone owned one by the next couple of years
Just like how Kajol falunted it in the movie, it was known as Kuch Kuch Hota Hai saree in the market for a very long time.
Tight tees
Well, long before biceps were a rage, Shah Rukh Khan gave us the trend of tight tees with a waist pouch look. Guys scrambled to the stores to buy the last blue and green tees available. And hoodies were donned even during summers. Crazy, isn’t it?
Cool necklace
You were totally the stud if you sported that COOL necklace with your tight tee shirt. From metro cities to Tier II towns and villages, SRK’s styling in KKHH gave everyone fashion goals!
Gelled hair
This was the first time that we saw a hero with gelled hair. Prior to that gel, wax and mousse were unheard of terms in men’s grooming dictionary. We really have to thank the makers as we just cannot imagine some heroes without gelled hair now!
Nude makeup
Kajol’s Anjali was the typical tomboy, who did not do any makeup. Throughout the film, we saw subtle lipstick shades like nude, suede, light brown and so on. It was such a relief from the bright hues of pink and red. Subtle make up made a huge entry post this movie.
Layered salwar kameez
Rani Mukerji’s layered salwar kameez with tight churidars and a lace jacket was a super hit among conservative family girls as well. If you have observed, this trend has actually returned to the fashion market now.
The film has been a part of our growing up years and taught us that Pyaar Dostii Hai. We are sure fans will be very nostalgic today as KKHH completes 20 years!
